Recently, Fares and Marie posted the following updates to the campaign, Evacuate Fares and his family from Gaza:

March 16, 2025 (Fares Abulebda):

“Birthday during genocide. Today I turn 35”
Yes, it’s my birthday today, and miraculously, I managed to stay alive to turn 35. Only by Allah’s grace.
So, how does it feel to be me today? Hard, my dear friends. There is zero joy in my life and nothing to celebrate. I’m grateful to be alive. But my life is very hard, suffering doesn’t stop, living in destroyed place, in a plastic tent, more hungry than full, always alerted and constantly worried if my family and myself will make it to the next day. Worrying about my mother and Tariq, missing them every single day. Trying to find something to eat for my family and myself. Having heart shuttered in million pieces. Grieving my beloved martyrs, missing them, wanting to scream of pain!!! Surviving. From day to day. This is not life. This is survival.
Asking myself why. Why me, why Gaza, why Palestine? Why are we sacrificed in the big chess game of powerful forces? Cause by now, it’s obvious that big deals are made somewhere behind closed doors. That’s why conspiracy of world silence. The silence of Ummah. They tailored our destiny.
The only bright light in my life are good people who support us, don’t stop fighting for us and are sacrificing a lot for speaking for us. In all corners of the world, but especially in the West. We see you. We know witch hunt you are subjected to. People like you, my dear friends. You are always by my side, you helped and are still helping me enormously. You are the light in my life.
So instead of having birthday cake, my loved ones around…I’m sitting in my plastic tent with all these thoughts traveling my mind.
In spite of all…I say thank Allah for everything.

March 10, 2025 (Marie B):

Hi followers,

This fundraiser is unusual to me. I’m a full-time fundraiser, raising money for causes from family homelessness to you name it. Fares’ fundraiser has taken longer to meet his first stretch goal. Maybe it’s because GoFundMe isn’t the best platform and doesn’t offer an automated way to give micro-donations on a recurring basis (we are stuck using it). But it’s also because, during these unusual times, as hundreds of thousands navigate genocide, we’re all trying to help as many people as we can while battling fascism at home too.

Today, a non-violent Palestinian activist and student on a green card with legal status was abducted from his pregnant wife and sent to who knows where. Under the Biden administration, over 3,500 student activists have been arrested. Suspensions at universities, loss of job prospects, police brutality and the presence of the National Guard are all escalating. Surveillance under the guise of “anti-Semitic laws” is increasing, and this is only intensifying under Trump. These are heavy times, but they’re also times that call for solidarity.

Fares has shared his story with courage, and I’m honored, along with the other mutual aid organizers, to stand alongside him in this effort.

We are just **23%** away from meeting the first stretch goal. We see you. We appreciate you. Your donation, big or small, makes a difference.

How many more stories must Fares share? Can we all chip in and help him and his family meet this first stretch goal? If you’ve been showing up for Palestine—protesting, calling legislators, engaging in BDS, donating to mutual aid and speaking nonstop on social media when your peers have been totally silent—this is another way to make an impact. And if you’ve been unsure how to help, this is a direct way to support a family facing unimaginable challenges.

Usually, there’s an outcome or shred of good news to report, and that helps with meeting fundraising goals. But with Rafah borders closed and fascism rampaging on a global scale… I’m unsure, man. Really. But I will say this—Fares and his family are still here. We are all still showing up to support. That interconnection is beautiful, and I think it keeps all of us hopeful and sustaining, especially those who need it most.

If you want to share words of solidarity, please reach out. Your support means so much.

Let’s reach this first goal, together.

With love,
Marie B
