Yesterday, Jennifer Huddleston posted the following update to the campaign, SAY NO TO GENOCIDE!!! HELP MUHAMMAD SAVE HIS FAMILY!!!:
Dear Team,
Over the past two weeks, events in Gaza have once again forced Mohammed Tareq and his family into unimaginable circumstances. Because of your generous donations, they were able to avoid the dangerous GHF “death trap” food distribution center, where people are often shot at while waiting in line, and instead purchase food from the black market.
Though exorbitantly priced, this food was far safer to obtain and lifesaving. They were able to secure flour, pasta, canned vegetables and meats, milk, cheese, and most importantly, baby formula which without doubt saved the life of Mohammed’s infant niece.Thanks to his careful planning and your support, the family has been able to recover from severe malnutrition without illness. Mohammed has even been educating his community about the dangers of refeeding syndrome and guiding others on safe nutritional recovery.
The family’s immediate goal is to stockpile enough food for three months while supplies are still relatively available. This requires roughly $2,000 in additional costs for supplies. In addition, their displacement has come with a crushing financial burden: they must pay six months of rent up front at the new rate of $420 per month, a required deposit of $2,520 just to secure a place to live. On top of this, their daily survival costs remain at about $100 per day for food, shelter, and medical emergencies.
Even in the midst of this suffering, Mohammed remains meticulous, resourceful, and deeply committed to his family’s survival and dignity. He has become not only a caretaker but also an educator and leader within his community.
